Swedish Items

The photograph on the left is of a military surplus Swedish scabbard, frog and M 1896 bayonet right out of the box. The picture on the right is showing some of the markings that are found on these bayonets. The M 1896 bayonet is an all metal design including the knurled grips. The bayonet has a double edge blade made of high quality steel and a unique locking mechanism to secure it to the end of the rifle barrel.

These next two photographs show the serial number that is stamped on the M1896 bayonets. These serial numbers correspond to the Swedish M96 rifle serial number that the bayonet was issued with.

These next two photographs show the top of the scabbard. Here we can see the military units that each of these scabbards were assigned to.

At the bottom of the scabbards, the serial number is again stamped that should not only match the bayonet but the rifle as well. It is very common when purchasing these bayonetss on the surplus market that they are found with mis-matched numbers. It is rare to find a bayonet and scabbard with matching numbers.
